Subject/design:
Seated woman holding a scroll-painting representing the pagoda of a temple.
The God Tamon (Tamon no mikoto 多聞尊), from the series Impersonations of the Seven Gods of Luck (Mitate shichifukkujin 見立七福神). All the prints of this series by Gakutei illustrate women as representations of the Seven Gods of Luck, all in some way alluding to the traditional emblems identifying them. Bishamonten 毘沙門天 (or Tamon 多聞) is best known as one of the armour-clad guardians at the entrance to Buddhist temples, holding a miniature pagoda in his open palm.
